Hazardous Area Electrical Inspections
HAZARDOUS AREA ELECTRICAL INSPECTIONS
Inspections
Electrical installations designed to be utilised in a hazardous area are composed of specialist items of carefully designed electrical equipment to mitigate against any potential explosive atmospheres. It is important to ensure the integrity of this specialist equipment is firstly correct and secondly it is preserved throughout the serviceable life span of the electrical installation
We achieve this by ensuring all electrical equipment prior to being put into service for the first time has been selected correctly and installed in compliance to BS EN 60079-14. The equipment should be subjected to an initial detailed inspection. The records of this inspection must be retained to provide a record that the equipment was originally selected and installed correctly in the first place.
As time goes by the equipment must then be subjected (in most cases) to a periodic inspection, either close, visual or sample detailed inspection to ensure the equipment retains its specialist design features against exposure to its environmental conditions and to the danger of any potential damage to the equipment by general site activities. This periodic inspection must not exceed 3 years from the initial inspection, and indeed may be more frequent dependent upon the environmental conditions that the equipment is subjected to.
Inspection track records
We are proud to say that our inspection programs have received commendations from the H.S.E on more than one occasion. Our inspectors are fully UpToDate with the current standards for new installations requiring initial detailed inspections, however our inspection programs for periodic inspections can be tailored to suit existing installations that had been designed, installed and certified to older standards including pre-ATEX installations. As experts we know what standards do apply to your existing installation and what standards that may not apply and will inspect accordingly.
Advise on frequency of hazardous area inspections.
We can provide expert guidance on the frequency of the inspection program that will be tailored to your individual needs and requirements, this will be based exclusively on the environmental conditions the installation is subjected to on a daily basis.
Maintenance works for DSEAR Compliance.
All inspection activities on site should be independent of general maintenance activities, however a good maintenance program should be based upon the results of an inspection program. As part of any inspection program undertaken by AC a highly detailed and carefully considered remediation suggestion will always be offered.
All inspection and maintenance activities must be included in the verification dossier of an installation. AC has a proven record implementing such inspections.
